Ososim’s friend and partner, neuroscientist Tara Swart, is delighted that her new book “The Source: Open Your Mind, Change Your Life” has been released today. As a neuroscientist and executive coach with a background in psychiatry, Tara is convinced beyond all doubt of our ability to alter how our brains work - and transform our lives.

We spoke to Tara to find out more about her new book and how training our minds can enable us to seize opportunities – both at work and in our personal lives.

Tara, what led you to write this new book?

“Self-help books like The Secret promise that we can tap into the ‘law of attraction’ to control our destiny, simply by changing our thoughts. If we strip away the mystique, at the heart of this idea is a fundamental truth that is backed up by the latest breakthroughs in neuroscience: most of the things we want from life – health, happiness, wealth, love – are governed by our ability to think, feel and act; in other words, by our brain.

In The Source, I draw on these latest developments in cognitive science and my experience coaching highly successful people to reveal the secret to mastering our minds – and changing our outcomes. Coaching senior executives is highly rewarding. But I knew by writing this book I could share my methods with a much wider audience and help more people make positive changes in their lives.”

What can readers expect – a theoretical treatment or a practical guide?

“Whilst I do cover cognitive theory, the book is very much a practical tool. It includes a workable four-step plan to awaken the power of your brain. As a unique guide to life, it combines science and spirituality in an open-minded way.

Reading the book will enable you to:
– Challenge ‘autopilot’ thinking and rewire your brain’s pathways to fulfil your potential
– Manifest the things you want by directing your energy towards your deepest values and ambitions
– Harness the power of visualisation to prime your brain to grab opportunities and take control of your future
– Attack life with confidence, dispel fear and avoid negative thinking”

How does it differ to your previous book “The Neuroscience of Leadership”?

“I wrote the Neuroscience of Leadership in conjunction with Kitty Chisholm and Paul Brown as a practical guide for leaders and managers, explaining neuroscience in an accessible way. It focuses on the competencies and capabilities that leaders and managers need to think creatively, take good decisions, improve their performance and resilience, deal with complexity, incentivize, and innovate, rather than focusing on brain regions or even functional pathways within the brain.

The Source looks at a more holistic level about how we can change our thinking to improve life outcomes as a whole, not just our leadership style. Having said that, it’s still a very useful guide for leaders and managers in the workplace to help them unlock their potential and be more confident.”

When is it available?

Today! I am delighted that the book has finally been released and is now available in hardback on Amazon. I hope you enjoy reading it and find it a valuable tool.”
