Student reflections: Neha Naik, Sales and Marketing Intern

Up Next… UX: Why games make learning more engaging and rewarding
News

Neha Naik has recently joined Ososim as a Sales and Marketing intern. Currently a Business student at the University of Essex, Neha is looking forward to getting more hands-on business experience.

We spoke to Neha to find out about her experience of digital learning at university and her view on the world of digital learning as she transitions from university to corporate life.

Neha

Neha, welcome to Ososim!

Thank you. I am delighted to be joining the Ososim team and looking forward to learning so much over the next few months.

What has the past year been like for you, adapting to virtual university life?

University has been like a game of two halves so far. My first year was going well. I loved being on campus with all the other students. But then the COVID-19 pandemic hit and by April 2020, all of our teaching went online. I did miss the face-to-face interaction with other students, but the university got everything set up very quickly and efficiently.

How did virtual learning work?

It certainly took some time to adapt to. Everything went from face-to-face lectures to virtual lectures on Zoom. Exams were replaced with coursework.  We had break out rooms when it came to group work, to ensure we were interacting with our peers and entering into group discussions to learn from each other. But I do feel I missed out on building better relationships with the lecturers and my classmates as the only way I could talk to them was on Zoom.

Are you hoping to get back to some face-to-face learning next year?

Definitely. Whilst I think the university has done a great job coping with such a difficult situation and ensuring we still learn the content of the course, I would love to experience more of the social aspect of university life before my degree is over.

What attracted you to the internship at Ososim?

I saw the Ososim internship advertised through the university system and was immediately keen to apply. I knew I would have several months over the summer which I could make good use of. I have just finished my second year teaching so the timing was perfect.

My digital marketing skills fit well with what Ososim were looking for. I have always taken a keen interest in social media marketing and recently completed a Google Digital Marketing certification. I believe digital marketing is an excellent tool for businesses. Ososim is a local company, based in Cambridge, but it is also known all over the world. I was excited by the prospect of being able to work for a company nearby that I could truly feel part of, but also gain exposure to a global network.

What are you looking forward to over the next few months?

I am looking forward to putting the skills I have learnt into practice, as well as developing new skills and gaining first-hand experience in business. It will be amazing to see how a company runs in today’s environment, after dealing with a catastrophe such as the coronavirus pandemic. Just like university life, life in business has changed dramatically over the past 15 months. I am interested to see how companies are adjusting and managing now as COVID restrictions start to relax, at least here in the UK.

I am looking forward to applying my digital marketing training with Google to make a difference to Ososim’s digital marketing, particularly working on SEO and social media. It will be exciting to see the results I can deliver. That’s the great thing about digital marketing, that results are so measurable.

What path would you like your future career to take?

I aim to continue following the path of digital marketing as I believe it is an interesting sector and a clear opportunity for firms to gain sales. Marketing explores so many creative avenues and is constantly evolving. The variety and depth of skills you can learn are endless.
